I’m Moving to South Korea! Study Abroad Series

Surprise! ECHO is taking over South Korea and taking on the adventure of studying abroad

I’m so excited to share this exciting news with everyone after knowing for 5 months now. it still doesn’t feel real that I will be living in Korea for 4 months but it’s going to be an experience I know I’ll never forget. For some context, I’m currently in school as an international business major who’s required to study abroad in order to get full credit. When it came to choosing the country I wanted to study abroad I battled between France and South Korea. more so, because the language I chose to complete with my degree was French, but deep down I knew where my heart wanted to go.

My Love for the Media & Culture

Since I was 11 years old, I fell in love with Asian media and culture, whether that included kpop (shoutout to the 2nd-3rd generation kpop girlies!). also including k-dramas, anime, fashion or beauty, I was intrigued by it all. As a tween I dreamt of going to korea, trying kimchi, and visiting the YG and SM building because of course I wanted to be a kpop star myself! So much, that in middle school I kept a journal and in the back of it I used to practice Hangul. I wish I would’ve kept going, however I will be now. I will be spending these last few weeks in the states practicing and learning it as much as I can!

Over time, I allowed myself to let go of that dream because it felt too far-fetched and I grew up and gained more responsibilities. But always remember, be careful what you ask for! It may not happen tomorrow, a year, 5 years, or more. But if a dream still lives inside of you, it may happen for you in 13 years! Like it did to me.

Fast forward to now, I got accepted to Yonsei University which is one of the top schools, being a part of the SKY League. Yonsei dominates the fields of business, political science, and economics, and more!

So far, the process has been loaded, from waiting on my acceptance, getting my visa, and trying to learn the language and customs as much as possible. Navigating this journey has genuinely felt unreal but the closer the date is coming the more I am anticipating this new era that is about to change my life. If you have been thinking about moving/studying abroad, I hope this blog finds you to start off your own journey!

Overall, I am truly so grateful for where I am in my life, especially from 2 years ago when I felt my life lacked purpose and excitement. Now I can say, I am so proud of myself and excited for the little girl in me who would’ve done anything to get on a flight to South Korea.

You’re coming too! Let’s Study abroad
